Tottenham have been going about their transfer business with a sense of conviction and clarity on what they want to do in the transfer market. Initially, they brought in youngsters like Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall before pushing on to more high-profile acquisitions like Dominic Solanke.
Spurs announced the signing of the ex-Bournemouth striker for around £65m yesterday. Despite getting the English striker, we covered a story that Tottenham were also looking at another number nine like Jonathan David.
There are also question marks over the future of Brazilian striker Richarlison, with the club willing to accept an offer for him this summer. However, it looks like Spurs are looking at other positions other than number nine as well.
Need for an energetic midfielder
As per Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge, as quoted by Give Me Sport, Tottenham are still in the market to sign an ‘energetic’ midfielder and has name-dropped Aston Villa star Jacob Ramsey as a party of potential interest.
“I still think they are in the market for an energetic midfielder. They like Jacob Ramsey at Villa, but he scored in a friendly yesterday, and I think Villa are very keen to keep him.”
Ramsey is widely regarded as one of the brightest young English talents. Ex-Villa head coach Dean Smith claimed that the 23-year-old had an ‘awful lot of potential’. It’s safe to say that the midfielder is yet to come good on this claim.
Tottenham might be tempted to sign Ramsey but the player has no reason to leave Villa for the N17 this summer. Unai Emery’s side is playing in the Champions League whilst Spurs are only present in the Europa League. The 23-year-old earns a decent £3.6m-a-year as wages currently.
The Spanish tactician has placed immense trust in Ramsey despite his indifferent form last season. The player is already repaying the manager’s faith by scoring a goal in pre-season and going into the season in good form.
The future is bright for Ramsey but it is unlikely to be at the N17. If Tottenham want an ‘energetic’ midfielder, they might need to look elsewhere. What do you think? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
