Tottenham star issues apology after potential criminal offence lands him in hot water

Tottenham make decision on £55k-a-week controversial star caught in hot water

Yves Bissouma is among the headlines once again and for all the wrong reasons, and the player has issued a public apology statement after a video of him inhaling laughing gas emerged online.

The Mali international posted a video of him inhaling nitrous oxide, also known by many as laughing gas, from a balloon on his personal Snapchat account before taking the video down a few hours later, per The Sun.

The footage shows the former Brighton midfielder blowing in substance from a balloon in a chauffeur-driven limousine that was carrying him and his mates with the party following Spurs’ pre-season friendly defeat against Bayern Munich at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium on Saturday.

The report states that the 27-year-old was seen ‘laughing manically’ while taking consistent hits of the substance.

This is a disappointing show for the Lilywhites faithful, as this comes just days before the commencement of the new Premier League season, a campaign where the North Londoners are looking to build on their progress under Ange Postecoglou’s tutelage.

The club has drafted this news as an ‘internal matter’ as Yves faces an anxious prospect of being heftily punished by the club.

Having nitrous oxide (or laughing gas, or NOS) for recreational use has been a criminal offence in the UK since 2023. This can aggregate into a two-year prison sentence.

The report also states that the player has put his hands up in apology for his actions, admitting that this was a lack of judgment on his part. Bissouma said:

“I want to apologize for these videos. This was a severe lack of judgment. I understand how serious this is and the health risks involved, and I also take my responsibility as a footballer and role model very seriously.”

While possessing and using such substances for recreational purposes is good enough, blowing them in and posting them on social media is worse.

Daniel Levy and Ange Postecoglou would be fuming at these actions, especially considering how he was on the exodus list at White Hart Lane not long ago. He could be left out of the starting lineup for a while to make him aware of the depth of such actions.

For Tottenham, Bissouma or not, they would be gearing up to face Leicester City this time next week as they hope to kick off their season on a high.
