Tottenham’s own "Marcus Rashford" linked with potential summer departure - Report

Young talent has been the theme for Tottenham’s transfer window this summer.

The Lilywhites have been turning quite a few heads with the way they have been beating their rivals is scooping up highly-rated young talent.

Amidst the upheaval we also have some at Spurs tipped for the exit door, and reports have emerged for one of their own.

Sunderland want Dane Scarlett this summer

According to SI, a Sunderland-focused outlet, the Black Cats are keen to signing young Tottenham forward Dane Scarlett before the transfer window slams shut.

The 20-year-old has been highly-rated ever since his days at the Spurs academy, though he has left a lot to be desired in his senior career thus far.

José Mourinho, who worked with Scarlett during his time in North London, spoke effusively of the youngster, comparing him to one of his former players, Marcus Rashford.

“He is a diamond, a kid with incredible potential.

“He has worked many times with the first team and that gives him a different personality. He is still 16, 17 soon [in March] and I believe next season he will be a first-team squad player because he has a lot of talent. He is going to be a fantastic player and I hope everything around him goes well. He is a striker, a number nine, I have been playing him from the sides similar to Marcus Rashford and he is very clever.”

Mourinho in an interview given to BT Sport in 2021, as quoted by AS.

Scarlett spent the first half of last season on loan at Ipswich Town but was recalled midway through due to lack of game time.

Valued by Transfermarkt at €1.

Don’t be a Rashford, and leave

If the club deem him surplus to requirements, Scarlett should not hesitate and leave for the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland are a club that have proven to be a decent-enough platform for young talent in recent years. They are a club with an upward trajectory, with Man United’s Amad Diallo having recently impressed there on loan and Jobe Bellingham continuing to thrive there.

At 20, Scarlett’s formative years are soon to come to and end and he’ll want to be ready to take the jump to the next level in a few years’ time. When that time comes, he’ll want to make sure it’s not another step down.
