Tottenham have had an interesting pre-season. Barring the two losses to Bayern Munich aside, Ange Postecoglou has done extremely well with the squad that he has. He has given a lot of youngsters a chance.

The North London club lost Emerson Royal to AC Milan today with the Serie A giants putting the finishing touches on a long-drawn transfer saga. Spurs currently are one option light in the right-back position.

Or, are they? It does look like Postecoglou is willing to give a new lease of life to a £25,000 per week Tottenham Hotspur whose career at the N17 seems all but done just a few weeks ago. We even covered a story on how Genoa pulled out of the race to sign him.

Djed Spence time?

The player in question here is Djed Spence. According to an exclusive report by Football Insider, Tottenham Hotspur have made a sensational U-turn on the future of the talented young right-back and are willing to give him a chance.

The 24-year-old defender was an Antonio Conte signing at Tottenham that just did not work out. The Italian coach did not trust him enough to give him a regular role at the N17 and eventually shipped him out to Ligue 1.

Spence returned to North London last summer but Postecoglou did not even take a look at him before loaning him out to Leeds United. Tottenham recalled him in January and then loaned him to Serie A side Genoa as a part of the deal that brought Radu Dragusin to the club.

It was

only in Genoa that Spence received some praise for his performances. The Italian media waxed lyrical about the English youngster after he impressively contained Federico Chiesa in the game against Juventus.

Spence is now set to have a first-team role under Postecoglou and he will definitely be happy. If he can prove his worth, Tottenham might have pulled off one of the major career U-turns in recent times.
