It’s about time to move on for Tottenham Hotspur supporters, as they sold multiple players in the summer window, and that comes with equally deep memories that will be remembered and cherished for the times to come.
While the Spurs supporters walk down memory lane, one of the former players is doing the same.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg moved on from the Lilywhites this summer. This came following a lack of minutes under his belt under Ange Postecoglou last season, and he finally concluded a move away from White Hart Lane following a lot of speculations.
The Danish maestro left the club to join Marseille on an initial loan deal with a £17 million obligation-to-buy, and he would be hoping that the French side’s supporters would have forgotten all about the last time he featured at the Stade Velodrome.
Hojbjerg faces an awkward Marseille welcome
November 2022. Tottenham visit Marseille in a group-stage Champions League clash as Antonio Conte looks to enter the knockout stages of the European elite competition.
The game was going nowhere when Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg took charge of the situation and netted a screamer in the 95th minute, which took the North Londoners to the knockout stages of UCL while the French side concluded the game at the bottom of the group. The former Bayern midfielder was left in an awkward situation when one of his finest moments wearing Tottenham’s badge was brought up in his official Marseille presentation while he was sitting with club president Pablo Longoria.
It was kind of a ‘make or break’ moment in the Spurs campaign and Hojbjerg delivered.
The awkward question
The Dane midfielder took the question on the chin and said if he has to issue an apology for that banger, he will do so, before shifting to conversations about Marseille and representing the French club in a magnificent stadium.
Hojbjerg said: (via. RMC Sport)
“If you want me to apologize, I will, no problem! It was several years ago. I remember a magnificent stadium. I did what I could for the colors I defended.”
