Tottenham’s work in the transfer window this summer has been intriguing, to say the least.
As far as their latest bank-breaking move for Dominic Solanke‘s is concerned, Spurs have received criticism from some, like Graeme Souness recently.
However, they have now also received some media support from one of their former players.
Jamie O’Hara defends Tottenham’s spending, claims they’ll finish above Chelsea
In a recent talkSPORT appearance, Jamie O’Hara defended Spurs’ acquisition of the one-cap England international, also claiming that the Lilywhites would likely finish above their local rivals Chelsea again this season.
“Tottenham have done alright. We aren’t back. I am not saying ‘we are back’ because we never left.
“But we have made some solid signings. That’s what I am going to say. I like [Dominic] Solanke.
People are kicking up a fuss saying ‘he is not worth the money’. Well, it’s expensive now for players, especially strikers who score goals in the Premier League. He is proven, he has done it, he is good. You aren’t signing a nobody like Chelsea do and brought in 20 players nobody has heard of. You have got Solanke, he is a good player. He scores goals. Spurs will finish above Chelsea.”

Solanke has signed a six-year contract to leave Bournemouth for North London.

Time will tell
There is no doubt that Spurs have gone high and beyond to land Solanke, which is a kind of move Daniel Levy is not usually known to make.
But Spurs did need to back their manager in the wake of their fizzling run towards the end of last season. This is their way of making sure the gaffer feels content in terms of his preparation for next season because Spurs cannot afford the same fate that befell them last term.

At least on paper, Solanke is a signing that makes sense for Ange Postecoglou‘s Spurs, though only time will tell whether that theoretically prudent move translates to success in real life.
