La Liga club targets loan move for Tottenham's 'superstar' prospect tipped to be the next Trippier

Spurs have been a central focus of young player development of late, as Daniel Levy looks to ensure that there are a plethora of talents coming through the ranks at Hotspur Way. While some players develop within the lanes of N17, others have to take the tougher road with consistent loan moves away from the club.

This ensures that all the young talents are taking the next steps in their journey into regular men’s football. One of those players who is looking to take the next jump this summer is Ashley Phillips.

Tottenham’s Phillips eyes La Liga experience with Getafe

Tottenham Hotspur defender Ashley Phillips is linked with a potential move away from the North Londoners as he aims to spend the season in the Spanish top tier.

The North London academy ace is said to be among the potential prospects that Getafe are looking to acquire this summer, and the deal is likely to be successful as the Spurs remain open to initiating his loan move, per Lyall Thomas of Sky Sports.

Another gem in Spurs academy

Spurs are looking to compound on Phillips’ development in the upcoming season after he was on loan at English tier-two outfit Plymouth Argyle last season. His impressive performances for the South West side led to a call-up to the England U20.

He has been likened to former Tottenham defender Kieran Trippier by Sky Sports’ Lyall Thomas and Michael Bridge,

“Merse, remember about 20 years ago we spoke about a young full-back called Mr Trippier, I’ve got another one for us. Ashley Phillips, 18 years old, on loan from Spurs, centre-back, boy’s gonna be a superstar!”

The suggested loan move to the Spanish top tier will be a level up from the Championship, as Ashley would be looking to show his progress from the previous campaign and explore more levels when the next season comes around.

The Spanish

side has gained a reputation for developing loan players by giving them regular playing time, and the Spurs starlet is all set to take advantage of it going into the upcoming campaign.

The 19-year-old did get some game time in the recently concluded pre-season campaign as the 6’4 defender played in Spurs first three exhibition games against Hearts, Queens Park Rangers, and Vissel Kobe. However, he failed to make a single appearance since the senior players started coming through the doors.

Jose Bordalas is known to coach a strong defensive setup, and that could play a critical role in Ashley’s development next season.
