As is common in football, sometimes you get the players you want, and sometimes you don’t.
While Spurs have had the taste of beating their rivals to poach promising stars of the future this summer, they have occasionally been beaten in some cases.
One such case is of Désiré Doué, and renowned Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed why the French teenager ultimately went to PSG and not Bayern Munich or Spurs.
Explained: Why Désiré Doué chose PSG over Tottenham and Bayern Munich
In his latest Daily Briefing entry, Romano had the following to say regarding Doué’s imminent arrival at the Parc des Princes:
“There are several reasons for Desire Doue finally deciding to join PSG over Bayern Munich.
“PSG offered an important project, Luis Enrique but also Luis Campos and Nasser Al Khelaifi were involved in talks, all of them at the club were really pushing.
“At the end of the day, he’s French and that was also important factor. Luis Enrique was pivotal, his football ideas are really appreciated by many players; it was the same with Joao Neves.”
Doué, who has drawn comparisons with Neymar owing to his style of play, had already become a mainstay in the Rennes starting XI despite having turned 19 not too long.
PSG have reportedly agreed to a deal in the region of €60 million for the French youngster recently seen at the Olympics.
During his time with Stade Rennais, Doué made 76 senior appearances across all competitions, scoring eight goals and assisting another seven.
You win some, you lose some
You don’t get every player you go after. That’s just how football works.
Spurs have no time to ruminate on the one(s) who got away, however. They have holes in their starting line-up to fill before the transfer window slams shut.
