"We still have" - Ange Postecoglou makes big reveal on £65m Tottenham star ahead of Leicester clash

Tottenham went uncharacteristically big and beyond recently as they upped their previous record signing by landing Dominic Solanke.

Given how things ended with the last record signing, Tanguy Ndombele, people naturally have their doubts, meaning the Englishman will be given little quarter and needs to start delivering almost right away.

His manager has provided us with an update regarding how soon we will see him in a competitive fixture for Spurs.

Dominic Solanke ready to start against Leicester City

Speaking to the media ahead of his side’s Premier League opener against the newly promoted Leicester City this Monday, Ange Postecoglou confirmed that Dominic Solanke was ready to start the game.

“Thankfully it is what we expected, he is a top pro, a good guy, he has sort of settled into the dressing room really well. Footballing wise you can see he has the attributes that kind of fit into what we want to do really well. There is still an adjustment period there as we play a little bit differently and train differently and we have seen that with every new signing that comes in. So far he has fit in really well with the group and training. We still have a couple of sessions to go but so far, so good.

“Yeah, he should be [ready to start on Monday].

Solanke’s much-awaited move to Spurs was confirmed earlier this month. The Lilywhites have pledged an initial £55 million for his services, with another £10 million to be sent to Bournemouth as add-ons. The one-cap England international has signed a six-year contract at Hotspur Way.

During his

time on the south coast, Solanke made 216 appearances for Bournemouth across all competitions, scoring 77 goals and delivering 31 assists.

His Premier League record reads as follows: 134 appearances, 29 goals, 13 assists.

Big start needed

Both Postecoglou and Solanke need to go big right away.

The Australian coach knows he will not be given as much room in terms of criticism as he was afforded last time around, which is saying something. Solanke, likewise, given his age and now the price tag needs to get up and running almost right away and keep performing if he is to avoid being typecast as a one-season wonder.

The critical crows are never too far away, ready to strike at the first sign of a performance drop.
