Tottenham Hotspur have been looking to compound on their defensive aspects of the roster after bolstering the offensive side of the squad in the ongoing summer transfer window.
The Lilywhites have recognised the centre-back position as one that needs depth in the brand new season, as Ange Postecoglou suffered massively for a lack of depth at the heart of the last line last season. The Australian gaffer had to use full-backs in the CB role on multiple occasions in the previous campaign, and he would want to ensure that such problems don’t arise again.
Spurs have been looking at multiple defenders this summer, one of them being Bayer Leverkusen star defender Piero Hincapie.
Tottenham look to bolster defence with Hincapie pursuit
Piero Hincapie is a highly-rated defender who likes to play with the ball at his feet and explore offensive passes from the first phase of buildup play. He has proven such capabilities over multiple seasons in the German top tier, which has generated Tottenham’s interest in bringing him to White Hart Lane.
The £34k-a-week defender has the capacity to fit in seamlessly in Ange Postecoglou’s playing style as Spurs look to have considerable backup to Romero and Van de Ven. Moreover, Hincapie’s versatile profile fits into Ange’s liking for players who can slot into multiple roles in different facets of the game.

Xabi keen to keep hold of the versatile defender
Former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso called the Ecuador-born centre-back “a very modern defender.’ The Liverpool legend has urged the defender to stay at Leverkusen amid rumours linking him with a move away from the German champions.
From Spurs’ perspective, it would be huge to have such capabilities backing up and competing in the middle of the defence. Ideally, competition breeds progress, and that is what Ange would get if he managed to bring in the 22-year-old to Hotspur Way.
