Ex-player: Mourinho-endorsed Tottenham youngster may not have a future at N17

Tottenham Hotspur have been looking to entail a process to develop talents and make them ready for the first team, and following such a mindset, Daniel Levy and Ange Postecoglou have invested in high-potential young players this summer.

With ample high-potential players, the club has to ensure they explore the next level in their game in the coming season.

Dane Scarlett future at Spurs

Many Spurs academy starlets have secured their immediate future, and one of them is highly regarded talent at Hotspur Way, Dane Scarlett, who has signed on loan for Oxford United for the 2024/25 campaign.

He has been sent out on loan three times after making his Premier League debut in the 2020/21 season, and Scarlett is yet to put on performances to force himself into Postecoglou’s plans at N17.

Former Spurs defender Alan Hutton believes that Dane Scarlett could be on his way out of Tottenham on a permanent basis with his contract running out in 2027.

Jose Mourinho, back when he was Tottenham’s coach wanted him to be a part of the first-team squad and gave the player a glowing endorsement

“Next season he has to be a first team player. Immense talent. Very good physical development. He’s very good, he’s going to be very good. I hope that nothing is going to destroy that potential. He must have feet on the ground and head on his shoulders because he has a fantastic talent.”

Hutton thinks that’s the end of Dane’s road at Tottenham

Should Tottenham keep or sell Dane Scarlett?
Should Tottenham keep or sell Dane Scarlett?

Speaking in an exclusive interview on Tottenham News, Hutton said:

“Possibly, you never like to say it with young players. But he has had opportunities, he’s gone out on loan, he’s had a number of loans now and he’s going back out on loan this season.”

“He was there for pre-season so the manager would have had a good look at him and then made his decision. You’re out in the

shop window as a young guy. You go out on loan and you want to be scoring goals, hitting the headlines and having people watching you and looking at you for your future development, wherever it may be. You just feel that at Tottenham at this moment in time, it’s not going to quite click. They’ve spent a lot of money on Solanke, you just feel that with another loan he could be moved on.”

Scarlett hasn’t been highly impressive enough for Ange to consider his inclusion as the second striker or the third choice at White Hart Lane. There have been players who take a while to adapt to senior football, and Dane could be one of those. It is easy to forget that he is still only twenty and still has a long career ahead of him.
