Latest recruit Wilson Odobert shares his first thoughts on signing for Tottenham
Tottenham Hotspur are working on two more signings as they look to bolster their squad ahead of the 2024/25 Premier League season. This comes after the latest recruit of Wilson Odobert from Championship side Burnley for a fee of £25m plus £5m in add-ons, a transfer that has bolstered the club’s wide department.
It has been quite an exciting week or so in the life of Wilson Odobert. He scored for Burnley against Luton Town in the opening weekend of the Championship season before sealing a switch to Tottenham last week.
Amid links with several wingers, the Lilywhites quietly went ahead with their work and signed Odobert out of nowhere, much to the surprise of the fans. And now he has been speaking about the move to the north London club.

“First and foremost, Tottenham is a big club and it’s hugely ambitious, too. I think the club and myself share the same ambitions. We’re on the same wavelength,” Odobert expressed his thoughts in his first interview with Spurs.
After a strong start to last season, Ange Postecoglou’s men quickly dropped from the top of the table to outside of the top four after sustaining several injuries and suspensions to key players within the squad. The biggest problem Postecoglou faced was a lack of depth in the squad, with wide players Dejan Kulusevski and Brennan Johnson delivering inconsistent performances.
However, the Lilywhites have made sure to add a new winger to their ranks with the signing of Odobert. After a season with French side Troyes, the teenager joined Burnley last summer and played 33 times under Vincent Kompany in the Premier League, scoring four goals and providing three assists. He has departed Turf Moor after just one campaign, giving a glimpse of his burst of speed, dribbling skills, movement and decision-making in the final.
Ex-manager Vincent Kompany offered a glowing endorsement to the youngster after his initial appearances with the club. Here is what the Man City legend had to say
“We talk about the team settling and stuff and as I’ve told you, some of the guys who will be the heroes for us this season, you don’t see them but I see them in training and we have to be prepared for them to come into the team. Guys like Wilson are these type of guys. You can see the talent. It’s a matter of time. Is it tomorrow? Is it in a week or a month’s time? We don’t know. We’ll go with them.”
The Frenchman, who was on a £10,000 per week contract with the Clarets, can play on either wing and through the middle and will give Postecoglou more attacking options heading into the new season. Going by his first interview with the club, Odobert seems wary of Spurs’ ambitions to develop as a team and challenge for trophies under the guidance of Postecoglou.

We cannot wait to see Odobert dazzle on the flanks in a Spurs shirt and fulfil his potential. Boosted by a strong start to the Championship season, it will be excellent if the skilful winger can produce the goods and make an instant for his new club in our first Premier League game of the 2024/25 campaign against newly promoted Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.
