Jamie Vardy fires back at Tottenham fans with cheeky response after Premier League winner taunt

Leicester City skipper Jamie Vardy takes a sly dig at Tottenham fans

Tottenham Hotspur kicked off the 2024/25 Premier League season with a 1-1 draw with newly promoted Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Monday night.

Spurs were in mood from the first blow of the whistle and created a truckload of chances in the first half. What they lacked was just the finishing touch, but it came at the half-hour mark through Pedro Porro, who guided his header from a fine James Maddison whipped ball in the box.

While the second half started almost in the same vein, a quick counter from Leicester City saw Jamie Vardy equalise from their first shot on target and level the game on the night. The goal spurred the hosts as they immediately started threatening Guglielmo Vicario’s goal. Eventually, the game ended in a 1-1 draw, which left both the dugouts with contrasting emotions.

After being subbed off, Jamie Vardy was quick to remind Tottenham fans of his Premier League success with a cheeky taunt. Before walking across the pitch, the ex-England international also seemed to engage in a war of words with Spurs defender Cristian Romero.

In an interview with BBC, Vardy claimed: “You take a bit of stick during the game. As long as they can take it when I give it back then it’s all good.”

It was vintage Vardy against Spurs—quiet in the first half, struggled mostly to get into the game but when the opportunity arrived he pounced and punished us. The Leicester striker is well-known for winding up fans with his celebrations and gimmicks over the years—whether that is after scoring a goal or post-match.

At 37, the ex-England international also showed there is still life in the old dog, and with his strike on Monday, he took his tally to eight goals in 16 Premier League appearances against Tottenham. Vardy’s gesture after being substituted would have been tough to take for the Spurs fans but he is in a position to do that having won the Premier League title with the Foxes in 2015/16.

Failure to do so would result in dropped points, similar to the 1-1 draw at the King Power Stadium. We hope the team learns the lesson and responds strongly against Everton in the coming weekend.
