Tottenham’s newest purchase Solanke impresses on debut

Tottenham Hotspur took on Leicester City in their opening Premier League match of the campaign at King Power Stadium, with new signing Dominic Solanke also make his debut against the Foxes.

Pedro Porro scored the only goal for Spurs in the game in the first half but that’s not to say that Solanke did not put on a promising show in his very first outing for the Lilywhites.

He contributed on all ends of the pitch, with statistics from Sofascore backing his contribution up, despite not finding the back of the net to make his debut one to remember.

Solanke had three shots on target. To his credit, Mads Hermansen had a good game in goal and much like the rest of his teammates, the Englishman was perhaps unlucky to not score though he did miss one big chance.

The 26-year-old even dropped deep to help from a creative standpoint as well as defensively.

He had a 100% success rate when dribbling as he completed three out of three attempts. Solanke even made one key pass and played with a passing accuracy of a respectable 79%.

He won seven out of eight ground duels and one aerial duel, whilst also having two tackles.

Ange Postecoglou is certainly going to be a happy man looking at how the former Bournemouth striker presented himself on his debut with a complete performance against a difficult opponent.

Spurs require a profile like Harry Kane, who can score goals and help in the creation of chances by dropping deep as well. Solanke was not on the scoresheet but he was able to trouble the Leicester defence a number of times.

As the season progresses, there will be optimism about the ex-Liverpool star putting on a better show and very possibly, bettering the 19 goals he scored for Bournemouth last season.
