Glenn Hoddle lavishes praise on Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze amid Tottenham interest
Tottenham Hotspur have done well in the ongoing summer transfer window to back Ange Postecoglou in his second season in north London.
The Lilywhites remain in the market for further reinforcements, which has become possible with their recent £20 million sale of Oliver Skipp to Leicester City. Skipp is not the only player Tottenham have lost; Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has been sold to French side Marseille while Giovani Lo Celso’s future continues to be linked away from the club.
Bryan Gil has been farmed on loan to La Liga side Girona, and although Spurs have signed winger Wilson Odobert from Championship club Burnley to offset the Spaniard’s departure, Ange Postecoglou still has a lack of depth in the attacking areas of the pitch.
Tottenham have been keen on signing Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze during this transfer window. The Eagles playmaker has been subject to concrete links from Spurs for weeks and months. Now, ex-England manager Glenn Hoddle expects the ‘beautiful player’ on Tottenham’s radar to move on at some point this summer.
Tottenham Hotspur confirmed signings, transfers in, out, loan exits, releases for 2024/25
Speaking to Premier League productions (18/08/24 at 1:50 pm) via HITC, Hoddle stated: “You know what, Crystal Palace, they have been excellent towards the back end of last season. “They are the team I loved watching. I really, really enjoyed watching them, the way they play.
“Attacking-wise, they have got a lot of excellent players – They have got a lovely guile. Eze is a beautiful player. He is going to move on at one stage.”
Eberechi Eze has become one of the most exciting players in the Premier League in recent years. Spurs are not alone in their pursuit of the England international; he is also tracked by Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.
The 26-year-old, who can play anywhere across the front line or as a No.8 in the middle of the park, enjoyed his most productive season with Crystal Palace with 11 Premier League strikes. He was simply unplayable at times during the second half of the 2023/24 campaign under Oliver Glasner, linking exceptionally well with the likes of Michael Olise, Jean-Philippe Mateta and Adam Wharton.
Eze would be a fantastic signing for Tottenham after showcasing his talents and potential in the Premier League ever since arriving from Queens Park Rangers in 2020 and for England on the international stage after some dazzling cameos at Euro 2024 in Germany.
However, the playmaker’s £60million release clause at Selhurst Park has now expired, and after losing Olise to Bayern Munich earlier this summer and at the risk of losing key assets like Marc Guehi and Joachim Anderson amid interest from Newcastle United and Fulham, respectively, Palace will be extremely unlikely to let Eze leave so late in this window. And even if they do, the south Londoners will expect Spurs to pay a premium for the English talent’s signature.

Spurs may take encouragement from the words of one of our iconic players Glenn Hoddle about Eze being expected to move on from Palace at some point, but it remains to be seen how much Postecoglou wants the creative midfielder at this stage, especially after the arrival of Odobert.
