Report names two Spurs first-teamers set to exit after Oliver Skipp, omits Mourinho-backed outcast

Tottenham Hotspur are very active in the transfer market with plenty of fringe players seeking departure from the London club. The Lilywhites already started their Premier League campaign after Leicester City restricted them to a frustrating 1-1 draw on Monday.

There are certain key areas in the squad that Spurs want to address before crossing the summer transfer deadline day. However, it is necessary to move the fringe players to balance the finances of the club amid constant PSR surveillance.

Spurs have already signed Dominic Solanke and Archie Gray to bolster key areas of their team while letting many go. Tottenham have sold Oliver Skipp, Emerson Royal, and Joe Rodon while letting many players go for free to reduce their wages.

These players include Eric Dier, Ryan Sessegnon, Tanguy Ndombele, Ivan Perisic and Japhet Tanganga which allowed a massive expense reduction. Furthermore, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Bryan Gil left the club on loan as they were surplus to the manager’s requirement.

According to The Times, Tottenham wants to offload Giovani Lo Celso permanently while letting winger Manor Solomon go on loan. The report surprisingly omitted Sergio Reguilon who is not part of Ange Postecoglou’s plan and is desperate to leave the club.

Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho wants Reguilon to reunite with him at the Turkish club this summer. The former Spurs manager is an admirer of the Spaniard and Reguilon played most of his Tottenham games under him.

Mourinho once openly praised Reguilon, singling him out for having a very good approach. He said:

“I say, from my perspective too, one of the players that could show that Real Madrid’s traditional desire to compete against Barcelona was a kid like Reguilon, who had a very good approach in both matches.”

At the same time, Reguilon has shared his admiration for the Portuguese manager quite openly back in 2020. He said:

“I could tell a thousand wonderful stories about Mourinho. On Christmas Day, for example, he knew I was alone. We arrived to train on the 25th at three and I had a box in my place. I opened it and inside was a suckling pig, already cooked.

He told me: ‘I know you’re alone at Christmas, so you don’t have to cook dinner and you can eat well.’ He pays attention to details that most people wouldn’t know on a day-to-day basis. To be so aware of what’s going on in a footballer’s life off the pitch is important.”

Tottenham Hotspur confirmed signings, transfers in, out, loan exits, releases for 2024/25

Reguilon is serving the last year of his contract at Spurs under £53k-per-week salary, forcing Spurs to strike a deal. If the Spaniard stays for this season and no one finalizes a deal, he will leave as a free agent next summer.
