Tottenham and Liverpool target Piero Hincapie can be bought for £50 million
Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with the signing of Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie after his fantastic season with the Bundesliga champions in 2023/24. The 22-year-old is also on Liverpool’s radar with the Reds also plotting a defensive revamp.
Leverkusen have slapped Hincapie with a price tag of £50 million, according to Diario Expreso (via Liverpool Echo) with Tottenham and Liverpool expected to be in the race to sign him before the transfer window closes in a week’s time.
The Ecuadorian international’s stance is yet to be clarified, although, at Bayer Leverkusen, he is part of a young and talented team under the tutelage of Xabi Alonso, who has spoken highly about him in the recent past.
Tottenham require a centre-back, however, with Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Radu Dragusin the only players at Ange Postecoglou’s disposal at the moment. As the club’s focus was on bringing in a forward for much of the summer, a defender’s signing dragged on until late in the window.
Liverpool’s story is also similar as Virgil van Dijk is 33, Joel Matip has left and there are also doubts surrounding Joe Gomez’s future at Anfield. Arne Slot has still not signed a single player this summer but Hincapie would be terrific considering the situation he is facing at the back.
Manchester United and Bayern Munich are also said to be keen on the defender but with the Red Devils having signed Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro, and Bayern likely to bring in Jonathan Tah, both clubs may not pursue Hincapie with as much intent as Liverpool and Spurs.

The Bayer star’s salary at the club is only £34,000 per week and therefore, personal terms should not be an issue for either interested party, although it remains to be seen if the German outfit is indeed willing to let go of an important fixture from their starting eleven in the final days of the transfer window.
