Tottenham include significant sell-on clause in deal for ‘fantastic’ ex-Chelsea player

Spurs have inserted a sizeable sell-on clause in FC Cordoba’s deal to sign Jude Soonsup-Bell, claims journalist Alasdair Gold

Tottenham kid Jude Soonsup-Bell is on the brink of joining Spanish side FC Cordoba

Tottenham Hotspur began the new Premier League season with a frustrating 1-1 away draw with newly promoted Leicester City and Big Ange will be looking to make some late deals in the transfer window. There could be departures as well, with winger Manor Solomon on the brink of joining Championship side Leeds United on loan for the season.

Big Ange and the club are also planning well for the development of our academy kids. Super-talented Mikey Moore, who signed his first professional contract, is staying at the club and is expected to get minutes in the first team after impressing on the pre-season tour along with fellow academy product Will Lankshear.

On the contrary, there have been a couple of academy kids who have been either sent on loan to get some valuable experience or sold with a sizeable sell-on clause knowing it would be difficult for the player to find a pathway into the first team.

One of those is Jude Soonsup-Bell. The 20-year-old joined the Tottenham academy from Chelsea in January 2023. The young striker was deemed “fantastic” by his then-coach, Ed Brand, at Chelsea after they won the Under-18 Premier League Cup in 2022. He lived up to his reputation at Spurs and scored 10 goals and bagged six assists in 19 Premier League 2 matches last term.

Amid a lack of chances, Tottenham have allowed Jude Soonsup-Bell to depart. He has agreed to join Spanish side FC Cordoba in a permanent deal, which would see his short stint in north London come to an end.

In a Q&A session with the fans, Football London’s Tottenham correspondent Alasdair Gold has shed further light on the youngster’s move to Cordoba FC. While Spurs have

allowed FC Cordoba to sign Soonsup-Bell for free, they have inserted a significant sell-on clause in the deal.

“It’s a good move for Soonsup-Bell to get his senior career going in Spain. He’ll be there today doing his medical and tying up the permanent move. There’s no fee but Spurs will get 40% of any future sale and the player will sign a two-year deal with an option for a third,” Alasdair Gold claims.

Soonsup-Bell is undoubtedly a talented kid, but given Spurs shelled big to sign Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth earlier this month to boost their attack, the 20-year-old would have found it difficult to break into the first team under Big Ange. Thus, it made sense from our club’s point of view to allow him to leave and join Spanish minnows Cordoba to continue his development.

Knowing the Chippenham-born talent, who can play centrally or out wide, is destined for big things in the future, the idea to insert a 40% clause on any future sale is nothing short of a masterstroke. We would like to see Soonsup-Bell build his career in Spain and help Cordoba achieve promotion to La Liga.
