£165k-a-week Tottenham star delivers statistical masterclass against Everton: 93% passing, 7/11 duels won

Tottenham missed a glorious opportunity to beat Leicester City in their opening Premier League fixture. Despite creating a truckload of chances, the lack of clinical finishing meant Spurs failed to get past the Foxes.

Spurs received widespread criticism after that game against Leicester but it’s safe to say that they put all those concerns to bed against Everton. Tottenham managed to get past the Toffees 4-0 in an incredible display of attacking flair.

There were many standout performers for Tottenham in the game against Everton but their best player on the night was arguably Cristian Romero. The Argentinian defender was not at his best against Leicester but more than made up for it at the N17.

A statistical masterclass!

Here is an overview of the £165k-a-week star’s statistical performance, as per SofaScore. Romero played the entire game and scored a goal at the N17. He finished with an xG of 0.53 and an xA of 0.30.

He recorded three clearances and a total of six tackles. He won seven out of 11 ground duels and three out of six aerial duels. He was dribbled past just once and committed only one foul too, which is quite incredible for someone as rash as him.

He recorded 119 touches on the pitch, completing 90 of his 97 attempted passes at an accuracy of 93%. He even recorded one key pass and completed five out of seven attempted long balls. As they say, the numbers don’t lie.

One of the very best?

When Romero plays like how he played against Everton, he is incredible to watch and is arguably one of the best defenders in the world. He has a huge passion for the way he defends and is crucial to Tottenham’s success.

No one would have been more disappointed than the Argentinian World Cup winner himself for how he let his team down against the Foxes. If ever there was a way to bounce back, this game is a prime example.

So, what next for Romero? He needs to be consistent with these kinds of displays. Incredible game but now, it’s important that he carries this on. Let’s wait and see how the Argentinian’s career pans out.
