Tottenham could attack the transfer market late for a new left-back, claims Fabrizio Romano

Tottenham could bring in a new left-back late in the transfer window

Tottenham Hotspur and Daniel Levy have done an admirable job of doing some fantastic business in the ongoing summer transfer window.

By investing in young talents such as Lucas Bergvall, Archie Gray and Wilson Odobert, the Lilywhites have secured the club’s long-term plans under Ange Postecoglou. On top of those, the acquisition of Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth can be considered a marquee one, brought in to help Tottenham score goals more freely this season.

However, Spurs may not be finished in the transfer window just yet. The signing of a left-back could very well be on their agenda to provide cover for Destiny Udogie and Ben Davies. A move for new left-back, though, could be contingent on the future of Sergio Reguilon, as per transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.

Speaking exclusively to GIVEMESPORT, Fabrizio Romano delivered an exciting update on transfers for Spurs fans, confirming that the club will be ready to pounce late to sign a left-back if an opportunity arises before the August 30 deadline.

“Look, for Tottenham, I think there is still a possibility, yes, maybe to find an opportunity. For example, a left-back could be an opportunity that they could follow in the final, final days (of the window),” Romano explained.

“Then I would keep the door open for Tottenham, because they’ve been very good at keeping all the targets quiet this summer. So some of the deals they did were very, very silent, working in the background.”

Udogie is Ange Postecoglou’s undisputed first-choice left since the start of last season. The Italian has been excellent since arriving at Spurs last summer, displaying high energy, work rate, tactical nous and fight.

The release of Ryan Sessegnon in June has seen Davies become Udogie’s deputy heading into the new campaign. Davies is entering the latter stages of his career, and having turned 31 in April, there could be doubts over whether he will be able to fulfil his job as a back up to Udogie.

Tottenham want to offload Sergio Reguilon this summer

As far Reguilon is concerned, he is surplus to requirements for Big Ange and has been granted permission to find a new club. The Spaniard, who spent the last season on loan to Manchester United and Brentford, is into the final year of his contract (Transfermarkt) and Spurs are keen to get a fee rather than lose him on a free transfer in the summer of 2025. He was left out of Spurs’ pre-season tour of Japan and South Korea—a clear indication that the left-back has no future at the club.

So, it is quite clear why the north London outfit are still scouring the market for a new left-back, although keeping the cards close to their chest. As of now, there aren’t any concrete links to a left-back after our club abandoned the pursuit of Brest star Bradley Locko following a serious Achilles injury.
