Micky van de Ven wants to end Tottenham’s long trophy drought this term
Tottenham Hotspur enjoyed a field day when they faced Everton on Saturday, smashing Sean Dyche’s side 4-0 to register their first win of the new season.
The win in front of the home crowd was a massive turnaround in performance from the frustrating 1-1 draw with Leicester City at the King Power Stadium last week. No game in the Premier League is easy and facing Everton—despite their opening day thrashing at home at the hands of Brighton and Hove Albion—was tricky, but Big Ange’s men made light work of the Merseysiders to bag four points from their opening two fixtures of the 2024/25 campaign.
Spurs defender Micky van de Ven enjoyed an excellent outing in the 4-0 win over Everton. He showed incredible skill and composure, intercepting an Everton pass deep inside his own box. Rather than clearing his lines, the Dutchman went on a mazy solo run, covering the entire length of the pitch and upon reaching the final third, he set up skipper Son Heung-min for Spurs’ fourth goal.

After dismantling the Toffees, Micky van de Ven feels his team has more “threats” in attack than last campaign as he aimed to end the club’s long trophy drought.
“I think we are more dangerous this year,” Van de Ven said after the game (h/t The Standard).
“Like the gaffer has said, we can play down the side or through middle, and two or three balls from Cuti [Romero] to Maddison were really dangerous. I think there are more threats from us this year.
“We need to reach another level this season. Last year we were fifth, so it was a good season, but we want more. We want to win a trophy, that’s clear.”
Van de Ven and his teammates certainly look hungry and motivated to win a trophy this season, thereby, ending the long and frustrating wait of the fans to see the club taste success in terms of silverware. The Dutch defender gave a glimpse of the team’s mentality to succeed and get back into the Champions League this season.
Undoubtedly the fastest centre-back in the Premier League, the 23-year-old delivered a Man of the Match performance against Everton. He embodied what Big Ange is trying to do at the N17—create a squad of versatile, fearless and aggressive players who are prepared to take risks and entertain the fans.
The way with which Van de Ven ran more than half the pitch with the ball before laying off Son for Spurs’ fourth last weekend further underlined he is way more than just a normal centre-half in this set-up.

He may have arguably delivered the assist for the season, although there is a long way to go from here and the Netherlands international will be hungry to contribute at the offensive end of the pitch as much as possible in addition to his defensive responsibilities.
