Tottenham's 5 most memorable wins in the Premier League era

Another Premier League season is now underway, with Tottenham Hotspur keen on returning to the Champions League in Ange Postecoglou‘s second season in charge.

As we watch the Spurs season unfold, here we present to you our top five picks for the greatest Tottenham wins in the Premier League era.

Tottenham 5-3 Chelsea | 1 January 2015

It’s hard to have an eight-goal thriller without it being considered an all-timer, especially between these two sides.

The 2014/15 season was the first year for both Mauricio Pochettino and Harry Kane at White Hart Lane, and while Chelsea would go on to have the last laugh by winning the league this season, Kane and Poch made sure they properly announced themselves on the world football stage.

This game was the perfect illustration of that. Chelsea weren’t misfiring on the day, clearly, but Spurs at home were just too hot to handle as Kane hit a brace and was supported in the goals tally by Danny Rose, Nacer Chadli, and Andros Townsend.

Tottenham 2-0 Arsenal | 30 April 2017

This North London affair signalled a major changing of the tides, at least in the league, as Pochettino’s Spurs side established their rising status over a waning Arsène Wenger’s Arsenal.

Dele Alli and Kane provided the goals for Spurs on the day, while Hugo Lloris added further sweetness to the victory with a clean sheet. Spurs finished the season 11 points better than the Gunners, who finished outside the top four.

Man United 1-6 Tottenham | 4 October 2020

Both José Mourinho and Spurs fans remember each other with little fondness,

though that’s not to say there are a few moments they will cherish.

And the Lilywhites’ 6-1 thumping of the Red Devils is certainly one of those, that too at Old Trafford. United actually went ahead in this game with a Bruno Fernandes penalty inside two minutes. By the seventh minute, however, Spurs had taken the lead. Anthony Martial’s red card just before the half-hour mark further allowed Mourinho to amp up the pressure on his former side, with Harry Kane slotting his side’s sixth goal just before the 80-minute mark.

Of course, as much as this game is remembered as a one-off, it is not indicative of how the two sides’ respective campaigns came about. United finished runners-up in the league, while Mourinho was sacked one week before Spurs’ Carabao Cup final against Man City.

Hull City 1-7 Tottenham | 21 May 2017

Another all-timer rout. At the height of their powers, Pochettino’s Spurs finished their 2016/17 Premier League campaign seven points behind champions Chelsea by putting a neat seven past an already-relegated Hull.

Kane was yet again the star of the show at the MKM Stadium with a hattrick, with the other Spurs goals coming from Dele Alli, Victor Wanyama, Ben Davies, and Toby Alderweireld. Sam Clucas scored what remains Hull’s last Premier League goal to date.

Tottenham 9-1 Wigan Athletic | 22 November 2009

Despite over three decades of Premier League football, we are yet to see a team scoring into double digits in a game, though a fair few teams have had the fortune of putting the ball into the net nine times in a game.

Spurs are one of those teams, with Harry Redknapp‘s men having achieved the feat midway through the 2009/10 season. Jermain Defoe ran amok on the day with his five-goal haul, with

Redknapp’s favourite son Niko Kranjčar scoring his side’s ninth in the 94th minute.
