Alan Shearer waxes lyrical about Wilson Odobert after his Tottenham debut
Tottenham Hotspur bagged their first win of the new Premier League season last weekend by thrashing Everton 4-0 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. It was quite a resounding response after the frustrating share of spoils in the 1-1 draw with Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.
The Lilywhites were fabulous going forward against Sean Dyche’s Everton and there was a debut for Wilson Odobert—the recent £30m recruit from Burnley.
Wilson Odobert didn’t get on the Tottenham scoresheet but made the fans stand up with awe and excitement with his burst of pace, movement and dribbling skills. Many supporters expected the Frenchman to be eased into life at his new club, but Big Ange showed a lot of trust in the youngster by handing him a start against Everton ahead of seasoned campaigners such as Richarlison and Timo Werner.

“Yeah, I was impressed with him.”
Tottenham struck a deal with Burnley for Odobert earlier this month, surprising the entire fanbase with how secretly they bagged his signing. With his performance on his maiden start for the North London side, the fleet-footed winger has certainly staked his claim in the upcoming games.
The Meaux-born starlet is blessed with great pace, exquisite dribbling skills, ability to go both ways and fine technique, which makes him a real handful for defenders. The teenager, who is predominantly a left-winger but can also operate on the other side or as a No.10, has given Big Ange’s side a different dimension in attack. Dominic Solanke missed the Everton fixture with a knock, but if he is back fit against Newcastle United at the weekend, Odobert, however, could make way for the striker. While that would be a bitter pill to swallow, the French talent is expected to get a lot of minutes throughout the campaign as Spurs look to challenge in different competitions.
