Liverpool exploring a move for Juventus winger Federico Chiesa amid Tottenham links

Tottenham head coach Ange Postecoglou now has a strong squad to compete for Champions League spots as well as trophies this season.

Daniel Levy and Co. have done an amazing job of assembling a squad that has the potential to develop and go a long way. They would be looking to surprise the fans with a late signing, just like the club did with the acquisition of Wilson Odobert from Burnley last week.

One player who has been linked with a summer move to Tottenham is Juventus winger Federico Chiesa. The £181k-per-week Juventus star is not in the plans of new boss Thiago Motta and has been long told to find a new club. He has not been included in the squad in Juventus’ opening two games of the new Serie A season as Motta has enjoyed a winning start to his life as manager in Turin.

The Euro 2020 winner has attracted interest from plenty of big clubs, including Tottenham, despite his patchy injury record. And now, it appears Spurs’ Premier League rivals are planning to offer him an escape route out of Juventus.

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool are considering a late move for Federico Chiesa. They have made an initial approach to Juventus for the winger, who is available on the transfer market. The Reds are exploring the conditions of a deal to take the player to Anfield, with the Italy international keen on a move to the Premier League.

Chiesa, who was called ‘unstoppable’ in 1v1 situations and tipped to be a fantastic signing for

any of Europe’s top clubs by legendary Juventus and Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini last year, has not been the same player since rupturing his ACL in January 2022. He has struggled to reach his peak level of performance since his return.

Prior to his devastating injury, the 26-year-old was widely regarded as one of the most exciting attackers in Europe. He was among the standout performers in Italy’s Euro 2020 triumph—as evidenced by being named in the team of the tournament.

Tottenham star Federico Chiesa could be available for a bargain fee
Juventus star Federico Chiesa is available for as little as €10 million this summer

Out of Motta’s plans, Juventus are now open to accepting an offer as low as €10 million for Chiesa, who is out of contract in the summer of 2025 (Transfermarkt). Liverpool now appear as favourites to land the former Fiorentina winger.

As far as Spurs are concerned, Big Ange seems to have the wide department covered following Odobert’s arrival. Brennan Johnson, Son Heung-min, Richarlison, Dejan Kulusevski and Timo Werner are our other options out wide, which should be enough to cover the gruelling 2024/25 season.

Given Chiesa’s injury record and the dip in stock since his ACL injury, coupled with the fact that we have signed a young and promising talent in Odobert, Spurs are wise to not get involved in a late deal and let Liverpool sign the Juventus outcast.
