Ivan Toney has been one of the stories of this summer’s transfer window.
After starring in the Euros last month, and having been talking about a move away from Brentford for years, Toney has been expected to finally move to pastures anew this time round, though for a variety of factors, a move is yet to materialise.
That, however, may be about to change.
Ivan Toney receives fresh interest from Chelsea amid Saudi links
As reported by Sky Sports, Chelsea have made a fresh approach to Brentford for Ivan Toney.
The Englishman was left out of Brentford’s opening two games of the season and is expected to not continue with them, though the Bees remain steadfast in their demand for a reasonable fee in exchange for his exit and are expected to only entertain offers in the region of £40 million.
Toney has also recently been subjected to interest from Saudi Pro League club Al Ahli, though one can easily expect him to prefer remaining in the Premier League if the choice were left to him.
Tottenham, one of the many Premier League clubs linked with him, have been away from the noise surrounding the England international in recent days after their record acquisition of Dominic Solanke.
Toney remains a well-regarded Premier League operator, with Man City manager Pep Guardiola having said this about him earlier in the year:
“He’s an exceptional player. Not just with the long balls, with keeping (the ball) and set-pieces, with the penalties as a guarantee.
“For many things they can link with him and he’s an extraordinary player.
“I’m so happy he is back and hopefully that period is forgotten in his life and for his family. Exceptional players always are more than welcome in the Premier League.”
Guardiola on Toney, as quoted by beIN Sports.
Toney’s £20k-a-week contract at the Gtech Community Stadium expires next summer.
Spurs about to miss out, though that’s not a bad thing
Toney would have unquestionably improved Spurs, though the fact that the latter have roped in Dominic Solanke means it’s highly unlikely they’ll try to beat Chelsea for the 28-year-old’s signature at the eleventh hour.
And that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Spurs are well-stacked in the centre-forward department and, if they are to look for acquisitions, should reinforce themselves elsewhere on the pitch.

That said, Toney moving to Chelsea is a rare case of a player moving to Stamford Bridge that the Blues could actually use. He’s a ready-made solution for their problems upfront.
