Tottenham keen to strengthen the midfield area before the August 30 transfer deadline
Tottenham Hotspur are preparing for the final days of the summer transfer window.
The north London club’s chiefs are working tooth and nail to try and improve the squad further to help Ange Postecoglou have the best tools possible to compete for Champions League spots as well as trophies this season.
Despite raising the quality of the squad with the summer acquisitions, the Lilywhites are lacking depth in a couple of areas of the pitch. One of those is the midfield unit.
According to a report from Football Insider, Tottenham are targeting a move for a new central midfielder before the August 30 transfer deadline.

Yves Bissouma, Pape Matar Sarr, Rodrigo Bentancur, James Maddison, Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall are the central midfield options currently at Big Ange’s disposal. Gray and Bergvall are the fresh inductees in the squad—youngsters with fantastic potential. They will play important roles in the future but for now, Bissouma, Bentancur, Sarr and Maddison remain the experienced heads in the engine room for Spurs.
Oliver Skipp, who came through the youth ranks, was sold to newly promoted Leicester City for a fee in excess of £20m last week. The Englishman’s departure has freed up space in their squad and boosted the north London outfit’s transfer budget. In addition, Tottenham are open to accepting as little as a £10million fee for outcast Giovani Lo Celso after lowering his asking price.
Thus, Tottenham do have the resources in their transfer kitty to refill the squad with one important midfield addition. They have been eyeing a ‘dream’ move for Juventus midfielder Manuel Locatelli in the final days of the transfer window. Juventus will allow Locatelli to depart if their £20.3m valuation is met.
The Lilywhites are understood to be preparing a bid for the Euro 2020 winner, who is contracted to the Old Lady until June 2028 (Transfermarkt). Injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar has also greenlighted Spurs’ move for the central midfielder, citing his injury record over the last season as “impressive”.

For Daniel Levy and Tottenham, this is a great chance to bring in a top player with European experience and international pedigree to the N17 and fortify the depth of the midfield unit.
