Tottenham could revive interest in £100k-per-week 'drunken master' in January

Tottenham could revive their interest in Crystal Palace star in January

Tottenham Hotspur remain active in the transfer market as the window enters its final two days, with the club eager to make further additions to their squad.

The Lilywhites have already made significant moves this summer, bringing in several talented players to bolster various areas of the team. With their recent signings, Big Ange has addressed key areas of his squad.

Spurs have also managed to clear the deck to a large extent, with players in double digits exiting N17. As per his vision and strategy, Big Ange has been able to reshape the bloated squad which he inherited from Antonio Conte’s tenure in 2023. However, the head coach and his bosses at the club may well be feeling that a bit more could have been done to improve the depth of the squad ahead of a gruelling season.

Although there are still a couple of days remaining for Tottenham to attack the market, the club may already have set their sights on a potential mega deal in the January window. One of the summer targets which the north London club have not succeeded in landing thus far is Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze nicknamed the ‘drunken master’.

Eberechi Eze has been the subject of interest from a host of top Premier League clubs, including Tottenham. The £100k-per-week star has been Crystal Palace’s best player in the last two seasons. He enjoyed his most productive campaign in 2023/24 with the Eagles, with 11 Premier League goals in 27 appearances.

According to reliable the Daily Mail reporter Sami Mokbel, Spurs could revive their interest in Eberechi Eze during the winter transfer window.

“I think” – Fabrizio Romano offers transfer window update that would excite Tottenham fans

“It would be accurate to say Tottenham had an interest in Eberechi Eze, that is accurate. But I know, the entire top six will have looked at Eze’s situation. Interestingly, and most important of all, none of those clubs took the plunge,” Sami Mokbel said on the Last Word On Spurs.

“I think part of the reason would have been the hamstring injuries he has struggled from over the last 18 months. I think clubs will look at that and say £60m is great value and he’s a fantastic player, but we need to see another season out of him, and then, let’s make that deal happen next summer.

“Eberechi Eze may be one you look to do in January, perhaps. Or, if not, next summer.”

Eze is an incredibly talented player but he has got a history of injury problems at Palace. The England International missed a total of 31 games due to a combination of Achilles tendon and muscle problems. In fact, he was sidelined for two months at the start of the year after suffering a muscle issue, missing five games in the process.

That said, Mokbel perhaps may be right about Spurs adopting a cautious strategy about Eze. Also, the 26-year-old’s £60million release clause at Selhurst Park has now expired, and Palace after selling some of their valuable assets this summer, they will be highly unlikely to let go of Eze so late in the transfer window.

Palace are in a strong position now after Eze’s release clause expired, meaning if Spurs are to get one of their summer targets they will need to pay a prem

ium, which is difficult to envisage given we have splashed alot of cash in this transfer window. So, it will be better for Big Ange and his bosses at the club to wait until January before making a move.
