Turkish giants eye late move for £53k-a-week Tottenham outcast

Turkish club Besiktas interested in signing Tottenham left-back Sergio Reguilon

After significant investments in exciting talents to rebuild the squad, Tottenham Hotspur’s final days of the summer transfer window are expected to be largely centred around departures.

Ange Postecoglou inherited a bloated squad Antonio Conte’s tenure after he took over the reins of the north London club last summer. The Greek-Australian tactician has had three transfer windows to reshape the squad as per his vision, and so far with the help of Daniel Levy and Co., he has done a good job.

There have been several notable departures from Tottenham since the end of June. The likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Eric Dier, Ryan Sessegnon, Joe Rodon, Tanguy Ndombele and a few more have already left the club in a massive clearout. Manor Solomon joined Championship side Leeds United on a season-long loan on Monday.

Sergio Reguilon is another player who looks likely to depart Tottenham. The Spain international’s future at the club has been in jeopardy for some time now. As we draw closer to the end of the transfer window, he has started garnering interest from clubs across Europe.

According to a report from Turkish outlet Takvim, Besiktas are interested in signing Tottenham outcast Sergio Reguilon. Giovanni van Bronckhorst has prioritised a left-back signing regardless of what happens with Arthur Masuaku, and the management has thrown the Spanish left-back’s name in the mix along with Lyon star Nicolas Tagliafico.

Reguilon was left out of the Spurs squad for the pre-season trip to Asia and has – as expected – not been involved in the match-day squads in our opening two Premier League games of the new season against Leicester City and Everton.

Following the rise of Destiny Udogie, the £53k-a-week defender is deemed surplus to requirements for Big Ange. He spent the last season on loan at Manchester United and Brentford, and while the left-back did well, none of them have shown concrete interest in signing him permanently this summer.

Apart from Besiktas, the six-cap Spain international has intriguingly attracted interest from Barcelona, despite him coming through the youth ranks at Real Madrid. Having entered the final year of his contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (Transfermarkt), the Lilywhites want to cash in on Reguilon rather than risk losing him on a free transfer in the summer of 2025.

Let’s hope Besiktas intensify their efforts in Reguilon and sign the left-back from us, preferably permanently.
