Club insider thinks Bissouma’s laughing gas incident could have serious consequences

published :

Tottenham Hotspur had been thinking hard about the future of Yves Bissouma at the club beyond the ongoing summer transfer window, and while the Mali international established a few links with a move away from White Hart Lane, the club decided to take him off the selling list and continue with the midfielder for at least another season.

However, he faced major controversy and headlines for all the wrong reasons ahead of the start of the new Premier League season, where the midfielder was sorted in a video that appeared to show him inhaling laughing gas. The club reacted with an internal one-game ban following the emergence of the video.

Tottenham to make decision on Bissouma?

Following his fiasco, John Wenham, the owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhites Rose, thinks that the former Brighton man’s career is in danger and has blasted the player for his’stupid’ antics.

Wenham, speaking in an exclusive interview with Tottenham Hotspur News, insisted that it may have an impact on how the club sees him in the long term, especially with only one year on his contract.

Wenham said:

“I think these antics have put his career in danger. He won’t be sold this window; I think it is too late. However, in the long term, he will only be contracted with Tottenham until 2026.

“Therefore, I think his Spurs career is in the balance. From everything I read, it seemed like Ange Postecoglou was counting on Bissouma as one of the more senior players in the squad.

“He is coming into his third year as a Spurs player now, and he is still making these stupid mistakes. It wasn’t as if someone filmed him; he actually filmed himself. It’s just incredible that he would be that stupid to do something like that in this day and age.”

Time to redeem

Yves Bissouma did redeem his mistakes with an exemplary performance against Everton at the weekend. However, it will take him more than just one game for the player to gain Ange Postecoglou‘s trust once again.

We will see the long-term impact that the incident has on Bissouma’s future at Tottenham and also if he can do enough to redeem himself along the season.
