Spurs willing to accept £6-7m deadline day offer for Djed Spence

Tottenham open to cashing in on Djed Spence on transfer deadline day

Tottenham Hotspur have been subject to links for a new right-back as they look to provide cover for first-choice right-back Pedro Porro.

The north London club have been looking at ways to replace Emerson Royal in the squad following his move to AC Milan. While Royal has moved to Italy, Ange Postecoglou is now left with Pedro Porro and Djed Spence as the only options at right-back.

After strengthening various areas of the squad over the summer, Tottenham are focusing on offloading the fringe players and trimming the wage bill on the final day of the transfer window. Apart from Sergio Reguilon and Giovani Lo Celso, it looks like the club would be open to another sale.

According to respected journalist Ben Jacobs, Tottenham will be open to sanctioning Djed Spence’s sale if they receive an offer of £6m or £7m before the transfer window slams shut. He explained that the north London would be happy to keep the right-back if such an offer does not arrive.

Speaking on the YouTube channel Last Word on Spurs, Ben Jacobs said: “Spence’s asking price, which I’m still told is somewhere in the region of £6m or £7m as a minimum.

“So, double what anybody has offered particularly as I say Genoa have so far. If they don’t get that number they’ll keep him.”

After spending the last 18 months out on loan, Djed Spence returned to Spurs earlier this summer. Big Ange decided to give him chances in the pre-season tour of Asia and the player showed he’s more than capable of playing the backup role to Porro.

The Spurs head coach has been effusive in his praise about the fact that the English right-back/wing-back has impressed him

and his coaching staff in pre-season, with the Greek-Aussie stating that the 24-year-old has a role to play in his squad after Emerson’s departure.

At one point, the Lilywhites were actively pursuing AS Monaco star Vanderson to replace Emerson but they decided to abandon it, perhaps due to Spence’s displays in the pre-season friendlies. The London-born talent has come on as a substitute in both of Tottenham’s Premier League games against Leicester City and Everton thus far this season, which shows Big Ange has not been afraid to give him opportunities to play.

However, Jacobs’ claim that Spurs are willing to accept a fee in the region of £6m or £7m on the deadline day comes as a mighty surprise. If Tottenham are open to cashing in on Spence, it means Big Ange and his coaching staff may be planning to use summer recruit Archie Gray as a deputy to Porro this season.

Nonetheless, it would be extremely baffling if we decide to let the talented Spence leave so late in the window without a replacement lined up.
