Tottenham midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur fit for the trip to Newcastle United on Sunday
The summer transfer window finally slammed shut for English clubs on August 30 and Tottenham Hotspur would have been satisfied with their transfer wheeling and dealing.
Ange Postecoglou certainly was after the club invested well in young talents with high potential over the summer. The Lilywhites also smashed their transfer record by signing Dominic Solanke in a £65million deal from Premier League rivals Bournemouth.
Spurs’ signings weren’t just impressive. The amount of deadwood they managed to offload—including Giovani Lo Celso—on deadline day—to trim the wage bill was commendable. Now that the summer transfer window is done and dusted, Big Ange and Tottenham can shift their focus entirely on performances on the pitch.
Spurs have enjoyed a decent start to the 2024/25 Premier League season, bagging four points from a possible six. Big Ange’s side were unlucky to pick up only a point after dominating large parts against Leicester City away in their season opener but responded extremely well by smashing Everton 4-0 at home last weekend.

Ahead of the trip to Newcastle United on Sunday, Ange Postecoglou has given us an update of his team. The Spurs head coach stated Rodrigo Bentancur is available for selection again after sitting the last game out.
“Rodrigo is all good, he’s passed all the protocols we need to, and more importantly he feels really good and the medical team are really comfortable with him being available for Sunday,” Postecoglou said in his pre-match conference (h/t Football London).
Rodrigo Bentancur has endured a tough start to the new season with Spurs. The Uruguay midfielder started and impressed against Leicester City at the King Power Stadium before being stretchered off with a head injury after 78 minutes on August 19. A nasty clash of heads with Leicester winger Abdul Fatawu led to the 27-year-old staying on the ground for several minutes, and after plenty of checks by the medical team, Tottenham decided to use a concussion substitute in that game.
As per concussion protocols, Bentancur had to sit out the game against Everton at home last weekend. However, he is now back after passing all the standard protocols and medical regulations required after a head injury. The central midfielder, who was recently slapped with a four-game international ban and fined for his involvement in the fracas against Colombia in Copa America, is expected to be a part of the travelling Spurs squad to St James’ Park.
Injury problems and inconsistency have not allowed Bentancur to showcase his true potential at our club since he arrived from Juventus in January 2022. After a fantastic first half against Leicester, the head injury after the interval was another setback for him.

We can just hope the Uruguay international stays injury-free and manages to consistently deliver the goods for us, after showing glimpses of returning to his old best in the Copa America earlier this summer
