Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester City: Best Hopes and Worst Fears Revealed.

Matchday 3 of the 2024/25 Premier League season was a rollercoaster for Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham side. As Spurs visited St. James’ Park, the manager will have plenty to ponder after a frustrating 90 minutes. Newcastle United edged out the North Londoners with a late winner from Alexander Isak.

Tottenham relentlessly pressured Newcastle’s goal, but the home team’s sharpness in key moments proved decisive. Joelinton’s vision and Murphy’s composure set up the opportunity for Sweden international Isak to seal the win. Despite dominating possession, the Lilywhites were left frustrated by their inability to convert chances, while Eddie Howe’s side capitalized on their limited opportunities with clinical precision. Spurs will be disappointed with their performance, while Newcastle can take satisfaction in the victory, even knowing there’s still room for improvement.

In the aftermath of the game, Tottenham’s manager realised a few obvious things from the game. For instance, Tottenham had 20 attempts on goals for Newcastle’s 9. Postecoglou reflecting on this stat via X said

“We had enough chances to win comfortably”  he also added that “It’s not about the 20 efforts taken and I think that we couldn’t have tested the goalkeeper more times”.

Despite the loss, Postecoglou believed that the overall team performance was good and dominating. When asked about it he said

” Playing away the team really handled the tide well” also adding that “The team was under siege rarely and they handled the transitions pretty well”
