Ranking the best 5 goalkeepers of Tottenham in PL era

In this article, we present to you our top 5 picks for the best goalkeepers who have represented Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League (PL) era.

Hugo Lloris

Arriving from Lyon in 2012, Hugo Lloris would go on to become a leader at the back for both club and country, winning the World Cup with the latter in 2018. He is 12th in the Premier League’s all-time clean sheets list with 127, making him not just a great Tottenham goalkeeper, but a great PL goalkeeper, period.

Heurelho Gomes

For a €9m signing, this former Brazil international sure proved to be value for money for Spurs. Gomes was at White Hart Lane for six years, spending three of them as the Lilywhites’ first-choice keeper. He kept 46 clean sheets for them across all competitions in 135 appearances before moving to fellow London side Watford and enjoying another first-choice role in his late thirties that saw him take his overall PL clean sheets tally to over 50.

Ian Walker

Here’s a true Tottenham stalwart. Ian Walker’s Spurs career spanned across three decades, having begun well before the Premier League was a thing. He took charge of keeping the Spurs net clean in the first decade of the Premier League, managing 81 clean sheets in over 300 appearances for the club across all competitions. He called time on his career in 2008, calling curtains on an almost two-decade-long journey.

Paul Robinson

Another Premier League veteran, Paul Robinson held the goal for Spurs during the Martin Jol years. Arriving at White Hart Lane from Leeds United for €3 million in 2004, he would go on to turn a profit

for Spurs with his €4.4 million move to Blackburn four years later.

Robinson managed 51 shut-outs for Spurs across all competitions in 175 appearances, but he also had the particular fortune of scoring a goal for them, a feat he also delivered at Blackburn.

Brad Friedel

Not just a Spurs great, Brad Friedel is a PL great, having spent 18 years in the English topflight with stints at Liverpool, Blackburn, and Liverpool along with his final destination in Tottenham. Friedel didn’t just stay long in the game for the sake of it; he more than earned that privilege, ably serving as Spurs’ first-choice keeper in his 40s.

Across all competitions, Friedel represented Spurs 67 times, keeping 19 clean sheets. In the Premier League, his clean sheets tally of 132 leaves him eighth in the all-time list, notably level with his compatriot Tim Howard.

Also, like, Robinson, he too scored a goal for Blackburn.
