Tottenham may decide to revive their interest in RB Leipzig striker Lois Openda in 2025
Tottenham Hotspur broke their transfer record to sign Dominic Solanke in a £65m deal from Bournemouth in this past summer transfer window.
Solanke, off the back of an impressive 2023/24 season which yielded 19 goals in 38 Premier League outings for Bournemouth, was snapped up by Spurs in a bid to fill the Harry Kane-shaped void in the squad. It is a massive outlay and the club will be hoping the deal pays off—immediately as well as in the long term.
Before Tottenham signed the English striker, they were linked with several strikers from all around Europe. One of those was RB Leipzig hitman Lois Openda.

Lois Openda enjoyed a remarkable debut campaign in RB Leipzig colours after joining from French side RC Lens in the summer of 2023, bagging 28 goals and seven assists in 45 games across all competitions. His numbers were bettered only by Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane from players based in Germany.
The Belgium international’s goalscoring exploits for RB Leipzig didn’t go unnoticed, with Spurs, Arsenal and Manchester United having come knocking for the striker in the past summer transfer window. The Premier League trio were rejected by the striker as he made it clear that he didn’t want to leave RB Leipzig after just one season.
Openda has started the new campaign in a fantastic fashion. He helped RB Leipzig sink Bayer Leverkusen 3-2 in the league last weekend, thereby, ending the Xabi Alonso-managed side’s year-long run without a defeat in the Bundesliga. The 24-year-old’s rise in stature is already being talked about in Europe and there is every possibility that he leaves the German side in the future.
Now according to the German newspaper SportBILD (h/t Sport Witness), Tottenham have already shown an interest in Openda, who has no release clause in his contract that runs until 2028 (Transfermarkt). He has hit the ground running in the new season with three goals in as many games, and with no release clause in the striker’s deal, Leipzig remain in a good negotiating position.
The aforementioned report (h/t Sport Witness) claims Leipzig are expected to sanction the Belgian’s sale should they receive an offer above €75m next year. This would eclipse Solanke’s fee should Spurs decide to go for Openda.

As Richarlison has proven to be inconsistent and Son Heung-min is well into his 30s, the Lilywhites would be wise to keep tracking Openda’s performances over the season before deciding whether to plot a swoop or not.
