Fenerbahce boss Jose Mourinho eyeing reunion with Tottenham left-back Sergio Reguilon

Jose Mourinho wants to reunite with Tottenham left-back Sergio Reguilon at Fenerbahce

Tottenham Hotspur made some much-needed changes to the squad over the summer transfer window.

The North London club bolstered the squad with the signing of exciting young talents such as Lucas Bergvall, Wilson Odobert, and Archie Gray. They also broke the club transfer record for striker Dominic Solanke following his last season’s goalscoring exploits with Bournemouth, whilst extending the loan spell of the German international Timo Werner from RB Leipzig.

Tottenham also did a great job of trimming their squad, with players such as Giovani Lo Celso, Tanguy Ndombele, Ryan Sessegnon, Ivan Perisic, Eric Dier, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Emerson Royal, and some more, either leaving the club on loan or permanently. However, one of their players who was not able to find a new home during the past summer transfer window was Sergio Reguilon.

Sergio Reguilon, who arrived at Tottenham from Real Madrid in 2020, is still part of Ange Postecoglou’s squad but no longer has a future at the club. The Spaniard has made a total of 67 appearances for the Lilywhites throughout his stint thus far, scoring two goals and supplying eight assists for his side.

The 27-year-old was recently left out of Tottenham’s 23-man Europa League squad for group stages—a further indication that he doesn’t feature in Big Ange’s plans. The left-back is surplus to requirements and could leave Spurs despite the closure of the summer transfer window. And it looks like one of our former managers could come to the club’s rescue.

According to a report from Turkish outlet Fanatik, Jose Mourinho is keen on reuniting with Sergio Reguilon at Fenerbahce. The Turkish club are exploring a loan deal for the Spurs

outcast, as the Turkish window remains open until September 13.

European Cup-winning Tottenham star could yet leave North London this summer.
Turkish club Fenerbahce are eyeing a loan swoop for Sergio Reguilon

Fenerbahce are looking to make a big signing, akin to that of their rivals Galatasaray plucking Victor Osimhen from Napoli, and Reguilon could very well be that player. However, the aforementioned report adds that Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce intends to negotiate a deal that will see the wages divided between the two clubs for Reguilon.

The £53,000-per-week left-back, who spent time on loan at Manchester United and Brentford last season, was heavily linked with a summer exit from N17 which didn’t materialise. However, Mourinho is now keen to team up again with the six-cap Spain international, who he first brought to Tottenham four summers back.

Both Spurs and Reguilon must part ways as the Madrid-born defender’s move just hasn’t worked out in North London. We must try and do everything possible to agree on a deal with Fenerbahce to move him on, even if it means splitting the wages.
