Tottenham loanee Bryan Gil reigniting his career at Girona
Tottenham Hotspur have a plethora of young talents in their ranks, and head coach Ange Postecoglou in partnership with chairman Daniel Levy has to ensure that they oversee the development of each one of them—whether in the academy or on loan.
The North London club have loaned out some young players who were immediately not in Ange Postecoglou’s plans and wouldn’t have played much this season. One such player is Bryan Gil.
Tottenham signed Bryan Gil from Sevilla for £21million in the summer of 2021 but he has struggled to establish himself as a first-team regular. The constant chopping and changing of managers hasn’t helped his cause, with the four-cap Spain international twice going out on loan to Valencia and Sevilla respectively.

Having not been included in Tottenham’s pre-season tour of Asia, it became clear that the 23-year-old doesn’t find himself currently in Big Ange’s plans. As a result, Gil extended his contract with Spurs which contains a €15m release clause and joined La Liga side Girona on loan for the 2024/25 season in July.
Gil has enjoyed a strong start to the new season with Girona, scoring a goal in four La Liga games. He has played a total of 341 minutes across four league appearances, thriving on the left flank under Michel Sanchez. The Spaniard has been brought to replace Savinho, who left a gaping hole in the squad after departing for Manchester City earlier this summer.
According to the Spanish website EFE (h/t Sport Witness), Gil is enjoying his life in Girona colours and has quickly ‘regained his smile’ away from Tottenham, earning a star status at the Estadi Montilivi already.
The 23-year-old had hoped to leave Spurs after three difficult years in north London but was instead forced to accept another loan. The move has worked out extremely well thus far, with the Spanish attacker starting to regain his confidence and mojo. The aforementioned report (h/t Sport Witness) adds Gil is hoping to make the most out of the loan spell in Girona and views his new club as the ideal place to relaunch his stuttering career.
Gil has made just 31 appearances since his move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, including just two starts in the Premier League. Thus, it is safe to say the Spaniard’s move to Spurs has just not worked out due to different circumstances.

It remains to be seen how the attacker’s progression at Girona works out over the course of this season, but with Spurs already well-stocked in midfield and attack, it would not be a surprise if Gil decides to end his Spurs chapter and leave the club permanently if he does not sense an opportunity in north London next year.
