Ange Postecoglou could use January loan to reinforce key position at Tottenham.

Tottenham may plan to sign a centre-back on loan in January

It has been a mixed bag of results for Tottenham Hotspur at the start of Ange Postecoglou’s second season as the head coach.

The North London club currently occupy the 10th spot on the Premier League table after picking up one win, one draw, and one loss in their opening three league fixtures. The players have headed to the international break on the back of a frustrating 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United at St James’ Park last weekend, leading to another dropped points after the Leicester City game.

Tottenham continued their squad rebuild over the summer with some quality acquisitions. No central defenders were signed in the past transfer window, with the latest recruit in that position arriving in January in the form of Radu Dragusin.

However, with Spurs enduring a mixed bag of results at the start of the new season, Ange Postecoglou seems to already have his eyes set on the January transfer window. According to a report from GIVEMESPORT, Tottenham may be considering the addition of a central defender on loan during the January transfer window.

The Spurs head coach currently has Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Dragusin as centre-back options. Ben Davies, a left-back by trade, can also do a job in central defence when required. So, Big Ange will try to deal with these centre-back resources until at least January.

The aforementioned report adds the Greek-Australian tactician only wants a centre-back on a six-month loan as he doesn’t intend to disrupt the development of his two youngsters currently out on loan in Ashley Phillips and Luka Vuskovic.

with Championship side Stoke City, while Vuskovic has joined Jupiler Pro League side Westerlo for the season. Big Ange supposedly has plans to utilise the young duo in his Spurs side for the 2025/26 campaign.

Thus, the prospect of the North London club signing a central defender permanently in this upcoming winter window appears extremely less, with the head coach already making plans behind the scenes to use the next crop of youngsters from the club’s pool of talents.

Let’s hope our players, especially the centre-backs, remain fully fit and in great shape at least until January, when the transfer window officially reopens.
