Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reveals that Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea could potentially collide to sign talented Lecce left-back Patrick Dorgu. The Lilywhites signed Dominic Solanke, Archie Gray, Wilson Odobert and Lucas Bergvall during the summer to bolster their senior squad.

Spurs have started their season with subpar results despite dominating the first three games in the Premier League so far. They drew Leicester City in the opening fixture and lost 2-1 to Newcastle United at St James Park last week.

Tottenham dominated the game against the Magpies but failed to convert their chances as Solanke and Richarlison missed the game. Spurs have a good depth in defence but they have conceded unwanted goals like the Jamie Vardy goal for Leicester.

Udogie and Dorgu

Ange Postecoglou uses his fullbacks a lot in his style of play with Destiny Udogie and Pedro Porro on flanks. The left-back slot has Ben Davies as another option apart from Udogie who offers a healthy competition for the position.

According to Romano (via YouTube), Spurs are monitoring Dorgu alongside Chelsea despite the immense price tag that the player governs. He said:

“Lecce believe that Dorgu is a super talent, so Chelsea, Tottenham, several clubs follow him and monitoring him but is still considered too expensive. They want to make an investment on him still not spending crazy money because the player still has to develop but Lecce always say more than £30m-£35m for the player this summer and he stayed at the club. But keep an eye on this player for the future because I’m sure Tottenham and Chelsea will keep monitoring him.”

Player analysis: Patrick Dorgu

Standing at 1.85 metres, Dorgu established himself in the senior team at Lecce last season despite his young age. The 19-year-old has the physical athleticism, stamina and strength to dominate the left flank in both phases of the game.

The Denmark international makes regular progressive runs from the

left flank with and without the ball to threaten the opposition. He has the technique but there is a lot of room for improvement for him to become a regular contributor.

Dorgu maintains a good defensive contribution despite his proclivity towards the attacking phases of the game. However, the 19-year-old has much to prove before he is worth the £30m-£35m that Romano said Lecce are demanding. Spurs have secured their left-back position, so Dorgu needs to demonstrate that he can offer more than the current options at the London club.
