Lucas Bergvall is earmarked to make his first Tottenham start in the Carabao Cup
Tottenham Hotspur agreed a deal with Swedish side Djurgardens for teenage prodigy Lucas Bergvall in February but he only arrived at the start of July.
Rated as one of Europe’s brightest young talents, Lucas Bergvall was linked with several top clubs including Barcelona and Aston Villa before agreeing to join Spurs. He made a name for himself at Djurgardens, where he racked up 11 goal contributions in 19 appearances. This prompted the North Londoners to act quickly and beat Barcelona to the midfielder’s signature.
The two-cap Sweden international has come off the bench in each of Spurs’ first three Premier League games, racking up 31 minutes of action thus far. He is keen to make more of an impact during the remainder of September and launch his Spurs career.

According to a report from GIVEMESPORT, Bergvall is desperate to burst onto the scene at Spurs after the international break. The Carabao Cup tie against Championship outfit Coventry City later this month has been earmarked as a chance for the creative midfielder to make his first start in a Tottenham shirt.
Big Ange’s men get their Europa League campaign underway at home against FK Qarabag on September 26 and there will also be room for the Swedish talent to get more minutes under his belt. James Maddison is likely to get some rest in the busy schedule to preserve his fitness, which could allow Bergvall the score to play a key role in the cup competitions.
The aforementioned report adds Ange Postecoglou has high hopes from Bergvall and wants to slowly integrate him into his side. However, Bergvall could change the Lilywhites head coach’s plans when he gets regular game time because he has the ability and potential to stake a claim for a starting berth.
The 18-year-old has been called up to the Sweden squad for the UEFA Nations League fixtures against Azerbaijan and Estonia. Sweden beat Azerbaijan 3-1 in Baku on Thursday, with Bergvall coming on as a second-half substitute with 18 minutes left on the clock. The central midfielder will be hopeful of getting more minutes under his belt when the Scandinavian nation hosts Estonia next week.
