Saudi Pro League clubs eyeing Son Heung-min swoop on a free transfer next year

Saudi Pro League clubs want to sign Tottenham skipper Son Heung-min on a free transfer next summer

Tottenham Hotspur are facing an extremely critical situation with the contract of their star Son Heung-min.

The Lilywhites haven’t been able to transform strong performances into positive results across the opening three games of the new Premier League season, thereby, bagging only four points from a possible nine.

Son Heung-min has started the new campaign well with two goals in three appearances for Tottenham. However, with the South Korea international’s contract at the Hotspur Way expiring in the summer of 2025 (Transfermarkt), his long-term future at the club appears foggy.

According to a report from Spanish outlet Fichajes, Saudi Pro League clubs are eyeing a move for Son Heung-min on a free transfer from Spurs next year. He is one of the five high-profile names on the cash-rich Saudi clubs’ 2025 wishlist, as efforts are put in by the State-backed outfits to improve the league further.

Son has been a fantastic servant for Tottenham since joining from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2015. The forward has already earned legendary status at White Hart Lane for his commitment, passion, consistency, leadership skills and respect for the football club. The 32-year-old has made 411 appearances across all competitions thus far, netting 164 goals and supplying 84 assists.

Despite the departure of talismanic Harry Kane last summer, Son took the captaincy baton and led the team extremely well in Ange Postecoglou’s first season in charge of the North London club. he was quite effective for Spurs last season and carried the attack following Kane’s move to Bayern Munich, registering 17 goals and 10 assists along the way.

The South Korean’s incredible fitness levels and

return to form amid strong competition has made him an indispensable component of Big Ange’s side. There is a consensus that Son deserves a justified contract to remain at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium but within the club’s practical realm. The management chaired by Daniel Levy maintains a strict policy when it comes to ageing players to keep their financial muscle and wages in check.

Saudi Arabian clubs have managed to lure established, world-class players in recent years and they are looking to enhance the profile of the league by signing Son potentially on a Bosman move next summer.

Given the player’s following, status, experience and undiminished value as a player at the club, it is extremely unlikely that the Lilywhites won’t at least make a contract offer for Son and very frankly, he has done enough to be rewarded with his current wage at the club if not a few thousand quid higher.
