Tottenham loanee Bryan Gil is showing signs of reviving his career at Girona
Tottenham Hotspur reshaped their squad over the summer transfer window extremely as Ange Postecoglou hopes to build on a successful first season in North London.
The Lilywhites added some quality young talents with high potential to Ange Postecoglou’s ranks. They also moved on the majority of the deadwood and fringe players—either on loan or permanent deals. Bryan Gil was among those players to leave the club on loan.
Bryan Gil joined Girona on a season-long loan in July. As part of the player’s new Tottenham contract, he has had a €15m buyout clause inserted, and Girona has been given priority to trigger it next summer if they want to. If the La Liga club choose not to activate the Spaniard’s buyout clause, any other club can trigger it.
The winger never really managed to establish himself at Spurs since joining from Sevilla in 2021. Before joining Girona earlier this summer, Gil twice went out on loan to Valencia and Sevilla respectively.

The 23-year-old has enjoyed a strong start to life at Girona, scoring a goal in four La Liga games. He has clocked a total of 341 minutes across four La Liga appearances, flourishing as a wide-left playmaker under Michel Sanchez. Despite that, it seems ‘inevitable’ that he would be heading back to Spurs next summer.
According to a report from Spanish outlet Diario Sport, Gil has come up with good statistical numbers and has been winning the trust of Girona head coach Michel Sanchez, but he will return to Tottenham at the end of his loan spell ‘unless something extraordinary happens’. His ‘1v1 ability’ has been praised and how he is impressing Michel, who brought Gil as a replacement for Savinho.
The four-cap Spain international has shown signs of reviving his career in his nation, which is very good to see for a player who is extremely talented with a big potential to unlock. Gil is starting to get back his lost mojo and confidence, influencing games in the final third for Michel’s side.
Despite impressing in a short span at the Estadi Montilivi, Gil is expected to be sent back to Tottenham at the end of the season which reflects on the potential transfer fee and wages. This perhaps suggests Girona may not be able to afford to pay a fee higher than €15m—the buyout clause inserted into the new Tottenham deal the attacker signed before joining the Spanish club on loan.

All in all, Spurs would want Gil to enjoy more regular minutes and revive his stuttering career at Girona, which in turn could fetch our club a bigger fee for the player in the future.
