£8.4m former Tottenham player now has a €60m release clause

It took a while, but Tottenham Hotspur were finally able to get Giovani Lo Celso out the White Hart Lane doors in the recently concluded summer transfer window. It was one of the transfers that was long coming, as the Argentine struggled to find his feet at Hotspur Way, and bleak opportunities under Ange Postecoglou in the previous season meant his career representing the Lilywhites was always numbered.

Gio returned to the Spanish top tier on deadline day as his former side Real Betis secured his signatures five years after leaving them for Tottenham in 2019. The La Liga side acquired the 28-year-old’s signatures in a £8.4m transfer excluding add-ons, alongside handing Spurs the first option to buy Johnny Cardoso.

Lo Celso endured a difficult time at White Hart Lane as he struggled to find his feet in the physical and rapid nature of the Premier League. It didn’t come as a surprise that he would consider a return to Spain and feature in a league that he knows and has succeeded in for years.

ABC Sevilla (as relayed by Sport Witness) now suggests that the player played a key role in making the transfer happen. The player pushed to make the transfer to Betis happen after the talks started one month prior to the eventual transfer.

Lo Celso Betis return includes hefty release clause

Lo Celso has pushed hard to conclude a move to Betis, and it includes a huge release clause. The report states that the Argentine has a mighty release clause of somewhere in between €60m and €100m.

The reason behind such a hefty clause is to ensure that none of the Saudi Pro League sides swoop for the 28-year-old’s services on a cheap transfer.

Hopefully his return to Betis is nothing like his time at Tottenham and he can get
