This weekend’s game of the matchweek in the Premier League is undoubtedly the North London Derby on Sunday.
Both Arsenal and Tottenham are coming into this game short of players, both having also dropped points in their respective last games.
For Tottenham, however, there is some good news in the personnel department as two of their injured players might feature on Sunday.
Micky van de Ven and Dominic Solanke could feature against Arsenal, says Ange Postecoglou
In his latest press conference ahead of the Sunday game, Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou stated that Micky van de Ven and Dominic Solanke had been promising in training and could thus feature against Arsenal.
“It’s fairly positive. Micky’s good, he’s trained all the way through the international break and it was good for him to stay with us to build him back up so he’s ready to go.
“Dom’s improved as well and trained the back half of this week. We still have two days to go with those guys so hopefully they get through training ok and are available.”
Postecoglou on Van de Ven and Solanke, as quoted by Football London.
Solanke has been missing ever since taking a blow to the ankle on his debut against Leicester City.
The Dutch defender, on the other hand, sustained a knock to the knee during Tottenham’s last league game against Newcastle, though he seems to have recuperated sufficiently over the international break.
Arsenal, meanwhile, have absences of their own.
Excellent news
Both sides are going to try stick to their respective styles of play, though we can safely presume that Postecoglou will adopt a more obstinate stance on the matter than his counterpart.
In such case, it is even more pertinent for Tottenham to have their first-choice striker and defender back, the latter especially crucial in helping Spurs maintain a high line and bail them out in attack-to-defence transitions.
The odds are stacked more against Spurs in terms of historical and recent records, though they are facing a wounded Arsenal and have more than enough in their locker to get something out of the game.
