talkSPORT pundit Darren Bent thinks Son Heung-min will be Spurs’ key man against Arsenal

Tottenham skipper Son Heung-min will be raring to produce the goods against Arsenal

The new Premier League season’s first instalment of the North London Derby is on the horizon, as Tottenham Hotspur hosts bitter rivals Arsenal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Both teams are heading into the game on the back of disappointing results. Tottenham went down 2-1 to Newcastle United at St James’ Park, while 10-man Arsenal were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw by Brighton at home before the international hiatus.

The Gunners are set to miss a couple of star players for the trip across the capital. On the contrary, Spurs are fairly well placed with regards to squad availability, with Micky van de Ven and Dominic Solanke set to return to action after missing out last time out.

There have been numerous predictions by pundits ahead of the North London Derby showdown. Ex-Spurs striker Darren Bent has dropped his verdict now. He thinks Son Heung-min will be the main threat against Arsenal, tipping the South Korean’s connection with creative midfielder James Maddison to be the key to unlocking the rigid defence.

“Maddison, he is key,” said Bent. “Son is always the main one. I think he (Dominic Solanke) could be key as well,” Darren Bent said on talkSPORT.

“I think the main one’s with Son. When he shows up, he’s so dangerous. Just give him half a chance, and he scores. That connection with Maddison.”

Son Heung-min has become Spurs’ main man in attack since Harry Kane left for Bayern Munich last summer. He scored 17 goals and supplied 10 assists in the Premier League during the 2023/24 season, showing he is more than capable of shouldering the responsibility of leading the attack.

The £190,000-a-week Tottenham star has started the new season well with two goals in three league appearances, and being the skipper of the side, expectations of him are natural to be high from our fans. The 32-year-old has been a thorn in the Arsenal side over the years and he will be desperate to make an impression in the upcoming North London Derby.

Son has a solid personal record against the Gunners. The forward has registered 10 goal contributions (eight goals and two assists) in 20 appearances across all competitions, including three goals in two Premier League appearances last season.

Let’s hope our South Korean superstar produces a memorable display and helps Big Ange’s side get one over our bitterest rivals. A win over Arsenal could be the tonic that helps in getting our season back on track.
