Postecoglou not using Tottenham’s Solanke well – Wright
Tottenham Hotspur replace Harry Kane this summer by bringing in Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth for £65 million after his explosive campaign in 2023/24, in which he struck 19 times in the Premier League for the Cherries.
He has yet to get off the mark for Spurs so far and remains winless in the English top flight with his new employer, having missed out on the team’s only success against Everton due to injury.
Ian Wright, formerly an Arsenal forward, has said that he believes Ange Postecoglou is not being able to get the best out of the new Tottenham superstar. The 60-year-old was quoted saying the below when speaking on the Kelly and Wright Show:
“What I think with Dominic Solanke is that he’s done the work. He left Chelsea, went to Liverpool, went to Bournemouth, he’s not scored copious amounts of goals, but we’ve seen what he’s capable of. He should be in that phase in his mind where he’s thinking ‘right I’m going to go there. Because his link up play and hold-up play and running channels is very good.
He could give Spurs a different option, they can play up to him and go long, he can give them options other people can’t and I can’t understand why they’re not making him focus on that so that when the chances come he’s more relaxed about it rather than feeling at the moment he’s in there predominantly to score goals.”
While Wright is usually correct with his assessments, it does feel as though his criticism of Solanke is a bit unfair given that the 27-year-old has only just arrived at Tottenham and has been unable to make an auspicious start to life after being hit with a short-term injury layoff within days of signing.
Moreover, Solanke has also not featured in pre-season with Postecoglou’s Tottenham as his move to north London was finalised just days before the Premier League got underway. And while his finishing could have been better, the Lilywhites have, as a unit, been lacklustre in front of goal all season.

Now that he finally has continuity and has spent the better part of the last month training with his new teammates, it will be exciting to see what sort of impact Solanke has on Tottenham and if indeed he can replicate or perhaps better his goal tally in comparison to last season.
