Leece starlet Patrick Dorgu was linked with a summer switch to Tottenham
Tottenham Hotspur enjoyed a productive summer transfer window, reshaping Ange Postecoglou’s squad with exciting new faces with top potential. They also did a great job of shifting most of the deadwood and trimming the wage bill.
The North London giants have been investing mightily in young players in the past few transfer windows as Daniel Levy and Co. at Hotspur Way look to create a pathway from academy to first team, which also gives room for Ange Postecoglou to nurture the talents as per his ideology and playing style. This will reap long-term dividends for the club.
We saw Spurs sign some highly-regarded prospects in the last few transfer windows, one of them being Destiny Udogie.
Initially signed from Udinese in a £21million deal in August 2022, Destiny Udogie was loaned straight back to the Serie A outfit before officially joining Spurs last summer. The Italy international impressed hugely during his debut campaign in English football, quickly becoming one of the first names on Ange Postecoglou’s team sheet.
The 21-year-old scored twice and supplied three assists in 30 appearances across all competitions during the 2023/24 season, which had ended prematurely after undergoing surgery to an unspecified injury in mid-April. By then, Udogie had become a household name in the Premier League.
John Wenham, the owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose, believes the success of Udogie could influence Spurs to sign Lecce left-back Patrick Dorgu.
Tottenham were among the interested parties to sign Patrick Dorgu in the previous transfer window. No move materialised then but the club have continued their pursuit of the young left-back. John Wenham feels this is a player the Lilywhites could return for next year.
“Considering the success of Udogie, this could be seen as a good move,” Wenham said in an exclusive interview
with Tottenham News.“Udogie has basically trebled in value already after just one season. As for Dorgu, we’ve seen his name mentioned in a couple of transfer windows now.
“Therefore, he is probably a long-term target for the club.”
Dorgu left Danish club Nordsjaelland to join Lecce’s under-19 side in July 2022. He quickly grew within the academy and broke into the first team last season, racking up 32 appearances in Serie A. The teenager recently also became a fully-capped Denmark international, earning two of his caps in September’s international break in the UEFA Nations League games against Switzerland and Serbia.
Ben Davies is out of contract at the end of the season (Transfermarkt), and as a result, the Lilywhites will already be thinking about a replacement for the veteran Welshman. And Dorgu, at 21, could be viewed as an ideal long-term replacement for Davies.

Spurs must continue monitoring Dorgu’s performances at Lecce, and if an opportunity to sign him arises in the January transfer window, we must attack.
