26-year-old Tottenham star has one eye set on a Real Madrid transfer

published :

Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero has been subject to links with a move to Real Madrid since the recently concluded summer transfer window. While Los Blancos couldn’t compound on his signatures, their interest has grown tenfold since the summer transfer deadline, as Madrid scouts were spotted among the audience in the Lilywhites 0-1 loss against Arsenal last weekend.

Romero has been an integral member of Ange Postecoglou’s side, and that is apparent as the Argentine defender holds the vice-captain title in the Hotspur Way dressing room. However, Madrid links come as a blow to Spurs prospects with the 26-year-old.

The player is said to be desperate to play at the highest level, and he can adhere to those standards with Real Madrid, per a latest report by Football Insider.

The outlet revealed earlier this week that the Lilywhites are desperate to tie down the 26-year-old to a new deal at White Hart Lane, and a significant one as they look to make him the highest paid play at N17. However, the 26-year-old’s willingness to pen down a new contract at White Hart Lane would come down to the club’s ambitions, opening doors for Real Madrid to attempt a swoop at his services.

Is the Argentine destined for a move to Real Madrid?

Romero already has World Cup accolades to his name, and he wants to ensure that he continues competing for more silverware at the apex of the game, while Spurs are only competing in the Europa League at the moment.

The report states that the player will not rule out a move to Madrid in the future, especially if things remain as they are at Hotspur Way. The 26-year-old already has a successful pathway established in the Tottenham to Madrid transfer, with Luka Modric and Gareth Bale enjoying successful careers after moving to Santiago Bernabeu.
