Tottenham loanee Bryan Gil is trying to revive his career at Girona
Tottenham Hotspur reshaped their squad by signing some high-potential players in the past summer transfer window. This also enabled the Lilywhites to maintain their transfer strategy of signing young prospects with room to grow into world-beaters.
Simultaneously, Spurs also did a fine job by clearing up the deck. Majority of the deadwood and fringe players were either released, sold or loaned out. One of the players to leave Tottenham in the summer was Bryan Gil.
Bryan Gil joined La Liga club Girona on a season-long loan in July. As part of the player’s new Tottenham contract, the winger has had a £12.8million release clause inserted, and Girona has been given priority to trigger it next summer if they want to. If the Spanish decide not to, any other club can trigger it.

Gil never managed to establish himself at Spurs since joining from Sevilla in 2021. He looks to be finding his feet in La Liga now, showing his ability and potential regularly for Girona. The 23-year-old has enjoyed a decent start to life at the Estadi Montilivi, scoring a goal in five La Liga appearances. He is playing with a certain confidence and swagger at the moment, which could lead to interest from clubs across Europe.
John Wenham, the owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose, claims clubs in Spain may already be circling for Gil. He believes a La Liga club will the Spanish international permanently from Tottenham after his eye-catching performances in Girona colours thus far.
“Gil has made a bright start to life with Girona,” Wenham exclusively told Tottenham News.
“He is playing a lot of football over there and clearly doing well. Therefore, if Girona don’t activate the £12.8million release clause, which is fairly low, I’m sure another La Liga club will.
“It is definitely affordable and I’ll be pleased to see him leave the club permanently.”
It has been fairly evident through Gil’s struggles that he is not suited to play in the Premier League. He has made 43 appearances in a Spurs shirt, including just two starts in the Premier League. Thus, it is safe to say the Spanish winger’s move to the North London club has just not worked out due to different conditions.
The ex-Sevilla starlet is currently thriving in Girona as he tries to reinvigorate his career that had stuttered at N17. At 23, Gil is still relatively young to start afresh and show the world that there is a player in him. Having already proven himself in La Liga before which had prompted Spurs to invest in his services three years ago, his recent form shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone.

Thus, for Gil, who has no future under Ange Postecoglou and was subsequently loaned out in the summer, it is all about featuring prominently at Girona, playing well and securing a permanent exit from the Hotspur Way.
