Tottenham Hotspur have been exploring possibilities to bring Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White to White Hart Lane for some time; however, the Lilywhites have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of the former Wolverhampton Wanderers ace as Nuno Espírito Santo’s side are now looking to tie up the 24-year-old to a new contract at City Ground, per Football Insider.
This comes as a major blow for the Lilywhites, who have been pursuing a move for the Strafford-born midfielder for a while.
Need for a creative outlet at White Hart Lane
Ange Postecoglou has been looking to compound on his creative outlet in the transfer intervals. The club, at the moment, lacks a backup to James Maddison in the creative midfield arena; however, the Australian head coach has been using Swede winger Dejan Kulusevski as a creative outlet when Maddison is not on the pitch. Albeit this looks like a temporary solution.
Spurs had been subject to links with multiple players in the summer transfer window who can play as an understudy to James Maddison and eventually share the creative burden with the England international, with Gibbs-White being one of them; however, no move materialised, and Spurs go into the season relying on Maddison and Kulusevski’s abilities down the middle.
This is where Morgan Gibbs-White comes in.
Forest aim to keep Gibbs-White amid Spurs interest
The 24-year-old has taken strides in his game since moving to Nottingham Forest and has been operating in an attacking midfield as well as an inverted wide player role through his time in West Bridgford. He has accumulated 12 goals and 18 assists (30 goal contributions) in 84 appearances for the NFFC and has shown his abilities to perform at the highest level.

Many predicted that an elite club would eventually take him out of Nottingham’s hands, and Spurs could be that.
We will see if the player agrees on a long-term contract with his current employers given the opportunity he has to explore playing for an elite side in the near future.
