Tottenham’s blushes were saved last night as they came from behind to beat Coventry City in the third round of the Carabao Cup.
Brandon Thomas-Asante’s opener for Coventry in the 63rd minute was cancelled out by Djed Spence in the 88th minute, while Brennan Johnson sealed the win for the Lilywhites in added time.
After the game, one of the two Spurs goal-scorers was in particularly high spirits.
Djed Spence “happy to be in the plans” after scoring first goal in Coventry win
Tottenham defender Djed Spence was ecstatic after his side’s comeback win against Coventry City in the Carabao Cup last night.
After the game, the 24-year-old spoke to the club’s in-house media team, expressing his delight after scoring his first goal of the club.
“It meant a lot. It was a good feeling – especially to get the team back in the game and then the win. So, yes, the goal meant a lot.
“The manager [Ange Postecoglou] said just to be ready (before I came on), that was it really. Change the game and hopefully get the win.
“I’m happy to be in the plans. I’m happy to keep moving forward with the team. Hopefully we keep winning and we can go on from there.
“I’m looking forward. I’ve just got to stay ready and be ready for whenever I’m called upon, like today.”

Now in his third season with the club, time finally seems to have arrived for Djed Spence to make his mark and establish himself in the Spurs first team.
Spence has three more years remaining on his £25k-per-week Spurs contract.
Great way to make your mark
Tottenham’s current predicament bodes well for Spence on an individual level.
Emerson Royal‘s departure has already elevated him in the pecking order, and Spurs’ shaky start means Pedro Porro has by no means locked that right-back slot locked down for himself.

Archie Gray, on the other hand, while proving able when given minutes on the pitch, is still 18 and can also be slotted into the midfield, so if Spence can use last night’s outing to gain some momentum and follow it up with decent more performances, he could potentially make himself a regular starter.
